Happy Birthday Me! Last full moon of 2023

Image
Today is my birthday. My sixtieth birthday. Wow. Just wow.  When you are young you never think that you will get to this age. You have the thought that you have all the time in the world. Like the song from For King and Country says "Why are we spending time like someone is making more". I never thought that I would get to this age even though I knew some day I would God willing if the Rapture hadn't occurred yet. Isn't this a lovely full moon. The last full moon of 2023. So beautiful and bright. The kind of life I would like to have. Beautiful and Bright. The kind of light that no one could ignore (another FK&C reference). This past year went so quickly that it was gone before I could really get it all in.  So I am hoping that this next year will be better. I would love to look back on my sixty one birthday and see that I made a change in the world or at least to someone in this year. All this is by God's will alone of course.

Abstract Landscape “Cradle of Night” 24 x 24 mixed media by Kelly Jeanette Swift

Image
“Cradle of Night” 24 x 24 mixed media I love the night, especially during the summer months. Just standing outside in the quietness, smelling the honeysuckles, looking up at the stars, thanking God for the beauty He created. This painting was the first one I liked after weeks of frustration. I began it after I decided to ignore the “good painting rules” and just paint the way I wanted. I close my eyes and see myself standing on a fog enshrouded hill overlooking a valley with the lights of a town under a partly cloudy sky with stars. Can you smell the honeysuckles? Can you hear the crickets? 24 x 24 gallery wrapped canvas textural, mark making, acrylic paint, oil pastels, gold ink Sides are painted and it is varnished with a satin varnish, and ready to hang out of the box. It is packed carefully and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This piece is available. $430 + shipping. Message me. Or you can see it on my website https://...

"Pear Trees at Sunset"- New Abstract Landscape Inspired by Spring

Paper painting experiment #5

Image
This is # 5 in a series of experimental works where I am discovering my painting style or more of what I like to paint. Here are some of the "sweet spots" of the painting.                          And for a look at the development of the painting. Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 4 Stage 5 The final piece

Abstract on Paper: Storm Warning

Image
The smell of honeysuckle and ozone heavy in the night air, the last ray of light of a summer day, a field of wild heather as far as one can see. These are what inspired this new painting, a 18 x 24 mixed media done on watercolor paper. After I laid down the first layer I realized that I would lose the great effect I got with the water drops on the water color base, so I put a layer of mat medium over it to save it. That enabled me to put down fresh color without the risk of mixing the two colors.  I also accidentally put color where I did not want it because I was not paying attention, but it actually worked. So I am adding this technique to my list of techniques to use.

Fire Meets the Sea-an intuitive painting

Image
Fire Meets the Sea 18"x 24" Mixed Media on Canvas If you want to own this painting go to my website kellyjeanetteswift.com to purchase. After struggling with my last painting for a week, this painting was done much faster. Why? It’s because I had fun doing it. The last one was too controlled, too tight. It was not lose enough. This one was more intuitive and free flowing except for the parts I chose to control like the placement of the molding paste for texture and the lovely little pink circles. I have no idea what they are. They just felt right to do. After staring at the painting for a while I have decided to call it Fire Meets the Sea. I see flowing lava, sea spray, and vegetation. I actually love this one a lot. I wish you could see the details on this piece. Title-Frosted Cattails $460  +  shipping 24 x 36 on stretched canvas Acrylic and mixed media Why I created this painting-I usually do not like any thing to do with winter, but with the recent really cold nights I noticed that the little frog pond near my house was frozen over and the cattails where covered in frost and ice.
