A Christmas Eve Gift to All

A cold night's thought while traveling

Image
You know, much of my poetry is in praise of Summer and all it's aspects, including the full moons.  But as I was traveling out tonight to pick one of my boys up from work I just happened to notice how very bright the full moon was. The sky was so clear and the air cold, almost sharp as cut glass. Beautiful. The stars were shining, complementing the moon's light. I feel that a painting idea is waiting in there.

Winter's Morning Glow detail pictures

I love to use pencil and charcoal sticks to make lines under and on top of paint. You can also see some of the molding paste used for texture here. You can see that I love to use interference paint. Note the dots in the upper corner. Those were done using my fingertips dipped in interference violet and interference green. Dips, splatters, fingers tips, and palette knife all seen in these close ups. Can you see the white glitter I used to give the painting the frosty look? I never really understood the concept of having one determining temperature to a painting. Nature is not just one temperature. As seen here, I use both warm and cool in one painting. The dry plant look is done with copper and paper towels.

My thoughts behind this piece is that I wanted to capture the serene quiet glow of a frosty morning. The soft colors and cool shadows and the coppery brown of dead leaves. You cannot see it well, but there is much texture in the painting due to molding paste. I also used white glitter to give the "frosty" look.
