These past few weeks have proven a challenge for me. I have not liked anything I have painted lately. It's been a struggle. But I have finally figured out what the issue was. I have been watching too many YouTube artists and allowing their take to influence me. Do this. Don't do that. Follow the good painting rules. Today I just decided to follow my own rules and enjoyed the painting time. No more trying to fit a artist type mold. I'm just going to paint my way and to h*** with the art rules of design and composition. This is what I started on today. Not finished but I'm happy with it so far.

"I Will Keep Your Heart" This painting was created while I was listening to a Adult Alternative music channel. I don't remember the group name or song, but this lyric kept circulating through my head while finishing up the painting. It is a mixed media done on 18 x 24 gallery wrapped canvas. "Pear Trees at Sunset" 24" x 30" mixed media abstract on gallery wrapped canvas I really look forward to the start of Spring. It means winter is over and that color is returning to nature along with the warm weather. I love to see the pear trees near my home start to bloom. All that fluffy whiteness against the lovely bed buds just coming out. Really not sure about the direction of this one. I tried some new things and did not do any molding paste first. I just started painting. I like the colors though. So glad it's warmer now.                                          Women of Abstract Expressionism. I really admire these women. I love abstract expressionism and have geared my painting toward that direction. I really think I was born to late.

I had a dream last night that I was painting on a very large canvas. I was rubbing my hands all over it smearing great globs of a very beautiful blue all over it so that it dripped and ran like a waterfall down the canvas. I looked at my hands and they were also dripping with that amazing blue. It pained me that I had to go to work this morning and not paint. Also I am out of large canvas.                                                                                               This is the closest I could find to that color.

After much thought I had decided to change my Facebook page name. I want it to reflect what I do-Expressive abstracts. I base a lot of my art on nature and my perception of my surroundings. Texture was achieved with the use of a palette knife. A final coat of fine art satin varnish was applied to preserve the painting. I just watched this video of Aelita Andre, a child that was compared to Picasso and Dali. Certainly she makes lovely abstracts. I don't know which camp I fall in-the ones who praise her as a child prodigy or those who think she does not know what she is really doing. She seems to makes conscience decisions about what colors to use and mark making one minute, the next not. What I do see is a child who is having fun playing in paint. She has it on her clothes, on her hands and face, even in her hair. She practically is sitting on her surface while she paints it. I would love to be like that. Sitting on the floor playing with my paints (though I would need someone standing by to help me get up  :)  ).  So in 2015 I will strive to be more like a child while painting. Sometimes at least. I would like to see where Aelita is as an artist twenty years from now. See if she kept up her love of playing in paint.
