Happy Birthday Me! Last full moon of 2023

Image
Today is my birthday. My sixtieth birthday. Wow. Just wow.  When you are young you never think that you will get to this age. You have the thought that you have all the time in the world. Like the song from For King and Country says "Why are we spending time like someone is making more". I never thought that I would get to this age even though I knew some day I would God willing if the Rapture hadn't occurred yet. Isn't this a lovely full moon. The last full moon of 2023. So beautiful and bright. The kind of life I would like to have. Beautiful and Bright. The kind of light that no one could ignore (another FK&C reference). This past year went so quickly that it was gone before I could really get it all in.  So I am hoping that this next year will be better. I would love to look back on my sixty one birthday and see that I made a change in the world or at least to someone in this year. All this is by God's will alone of course.

Hands of Blue

Image
I had a dream last night that I was painting on a very large canvas. I was rubbing my hands all over it smearing great globs of a very beautiful blue all over it so that it dripped and ran like a waterfall down the canvas. I looked at my hands and they were also dripping with that amazing blue. It pained me that I had to go to work this morning and not paint. Also I am out of large canvas.                                                                                               This is the closest I could find to that color.

Seems like 1913 was a awesome year for art. If it were not for WW1, what could of been revealed by artists of the day.

Such a beautiful book. I love handmade books. Someday I might even try doing one myself. Also, woodcut was my favorite form of printing when I took the class. It is time consuming and I am an impatient person, but maybe I can do some small ones. There's a thought.

The Why I create

Image
Recently on one of my Facebook Forums we were asked the question of " Why ?" Why do we create? What truly motivates us? Of course we could come up with the usual answers-we feel the need, we want to be famous, money, etc. But after some days of thought our answers begin to change. This little video clip is from my all time favorite sci fi series Babylon 5. Favorite because it did not focus on the hardware of science, but on the relationships and drama that can unfold when many individuals of different backgrounds, religions, social classes, political views, and yes, different species, are thrown together. This scene stuck with me and now I know Why . I think that is why I want to create, to paint. To capture that one moment of perfect beauty. Thank you, Ambassador Kosh.
