I was just playing with making black and white photos with some cool plants I found when I discovered a setting on my camera that makes photos look like drawings. I thought they look cool and may experiment with it some more.

After struggling with my last painting for a week, this painting was done much faster. Why? It’s because I had fun doing it. The last one was too controlled, too tight. It was not lose enough. This one was more intuitive and free flowing except for the parts I chose to control like the placement of the molding paste for texture and the lovely little pink circles. I have no idea what they are. They just felt right to do. After staring at the painting for a while I have decided to call it Fire Meets the Sea. I see flowing lava, sea spray, and vegetation. I actually love this one a lot. I wish you could see the details on this piece. I just watched this video of Aelita Andre, a child that was compared to Picasso and Dali. Certainly she makes lovely abstracts. I don't know which camp I fall in-the ones who praise her as a child prodigy or those who think she does not know what she is really doing. She seems to makes conscience decisions about what colors to use and mark making one minute, the next not. What I do see is a child who is having fun playing in paint. She has it on her clothes, on her hands and face, even in her hair. She practically is sitting on her surface while she paints it. I would love to be like that. Sitting on the floor playing with my paints (though I would need someone standing by to help me get up  :)  ).  So in 2015 I will strive to be more like a child while painting. Sometimes at least. I would like to see where Aelita is as an artist twenty years from now. See if she kept up her love of playing in paint.

Seems like 1913 was a awesome year for art. If it were not for WW1, what could of been revealed by artists of the day. 

Such a beautiful book. I love handmade books. Someday I might even try doing one myself. Also, woodcut was my favorite form of printing when I took the class. It is time consuming and I am an impatient person, but maybe I can do some small ones. There's a thought.

          I think this is my favorite Picasso painting. It is so intriguing. 

On one of the art forums I am on we were given an exercise to do a self portrait either literally or inner self portrait. As an abstract artist I choose to do an inner selfie. As I got to thinking about how I would proceed I took a deep look at myself and realized I had issues. Inner demons. I don't think I will ever address them as I have lived this long with them and have been able to function semi normally. They are just things I would not want to share, not even to a therapist. They are not that deadly. As for the painting I choose to begin with a dark textured background to underscore the dark and scarred landscape of my inner self. I used crackle medium to show the cracks in my exterior, red for the passionate me, pink for the girl that always wanted to be but could not, circles for my favorite shape, gold leaf, orange interference paint, and rhinestones to reflect the sparkle I have to enjoy life, John 3:16 and a cross for my faith, and the lyric from an Eagle's so...
