Happy Birthday Me! Last full moon of 2023

Image
Today is my birthday. My sixtieth birthday. Wow. Just wow.  When you are young you never think that you will get to this age. You have the thought that you have all the time in the world. Like the song from For King and Country says "Why are we spending time like someone is making more". I never thought that I would get to this age even though I knew some day I would God willing if the Rapture hadn't occurred yet. Isn't this a lovely full moon. The last full moon of 2023. So beautiful and bright. The kind of life I would like to have. Beautiful and Bright. The kind of light that no one could ignore (another FK&C reference). This past year went so quickly that it was gone before I could really get it all in.  So I am hoping that this next year will be better. I would love to look back on my sixty one birthday and see that I made a change in the world or at least to someone in this year. All this is by God's will alone of course.

Work in progress-Winter Pond

Just a small preview of what I have been working on. Much more work to go.

A cold night's thought while traveling

You know, much of my poetry is in praise of Summer and all it's aspects, including the full moons.  But as I was traveling out tonight to pick one of my boys up from work I just happened to notice how very bright the full moon was. The sky was so clear and the air cold, almost sharp as cut glass. Beautiful. The stars were shining, complementing the moon's light. I feel that a painting idea is waiting in there.

My thoughts behind this piece is that I wanted to capture the serene quiet glow of a frosty morning. The soft colors and cool shadows and the coppery brown of dead leaves. You cannot see it well, but there is much texture in the painting due to molding paste. I also used white glitter to give the "frosty" look. This abstract modern painting was painted on gallery wrapped acid free canvas with acrylic paint. Texture was achieved with the use of a palette knife. A final coat of fine art varnish was applied to preserve the painting. It is signed, titled, and dated by me the artist on the front and the back.  Only fine quality art materials have been used and it was created and st...
